A new species of ant with a distinctive blue colour has been discovered in the Siang Valley, famous as the center of biodiversity in Arunachal Pradesh. The new species of ant is named PARAPARATRECHINA BLUE.
Researchers from Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE) and the documentation team from Felis Creations Bengaluru travelled to Siang Valley. Their main objective was to re- survey and document the biodiversity there. During this time, he discovered a new species of ant. Researchers said that they saw something shining in the dark in a hole 10 feet above a tree in a remote area of Yinku village. Upon investigation it was found that name of new species of ant found in Siang Valley is Paraparatrechina blue.
These were shiny ants. ATREE researchers said that these are not like common red, black or brown ants. It is a small ant and its length is less than 2 mm. This ant has big eyes and a triangular mouth with five teeth.
